The ‘Science and Visual and Performing Arts-A Multilingual Confluence 2024’ festival, a unique blend of science and arts, was truly remarkable. Organised by Bandana Cultural School in Sydney, it marked the beginning of Science Week with an exciting showcase of diverse talents. Celebrated on the 10th of August at Granville Town Hall, the festival featured over 20 students from primary school to university level. Science knows no country and is borderless knowledge belonging to all cultures and humanity, illuminating the world.
The event, which lasted five and a half hours, was a testament to the holistic approach of Bandana Cultural School, Sydney. The students demonstrated their understanding of science through models and projects while showcasing their dance, drama, visual arts, and calligraphy skills. This festival highlighted the school’s commitment to developing multitalented individuals through online and face-to-face mentoring. Dance Performances filled the hearts with joy and motivated and inspired everyone, showcasing teamwork.
The presence of various dignitaries, including Dr Janakiraman, the Consulate General of India at Sydney, and several prominent members of the NSW Parliament noted Hon’ Julia Finn MP- Parliamentary Secretary representing Premier NSW, Ministers Kamper and Jackson, Hon ’Jacqui Munro MLC, Hon’ Mark Coure- shadow Minister Multiculturalism, Clr. Sabrin Farooqui-OAM, two members of the Children’s Festival representing Mr. Thuat V. Nguyen AM, and many community leaders added prestige to the event. Dr. Tanima Banerjee, the driving force behind this festival, has been consistently working to transfer her knowledge and talents to the next generation, making this the fourth event in a successful series. Best Wishes messages from Governor General, Hon’ Chris Mins, Premier NSW, Ms Lisa Lake, Mayor Cumberland Council, Hon’ Gurmeet Singh – MP Coffs Harbour. The dignitaries shared their golden nuggets on the events to the much appreciation of the participants.
The festival’s cultural performances were particularly noteworthy, with a fusion of multicultural elements, multilingual recitations, and a motivational play emphasising the value of hard work. The event was meticulously organised, starting and concluding on time, with every participant receiving a prize. The celebration fostered a scientific spirit and brought the community together through the performing arts, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next event.
The Program was filled with scientific aromas created by Children. Then, the same children appeared on the stage for multicultural creative performances, including a fusion of multi-community versions, multilingual recitation, and a motivational theatrical play with the message “Hard Work is the key to Success.” Rabindra Nritya was so much fun that when next is the question in everyone’s mind.
The event started and closed on time, and every participant earned a prize. Many received tickets to class and subject-specific books as awards. Qanita’s STEM theme-based Photobooth added colour to the show. The participants received a colourful certificate designed by Subash Dasgupta, who also designed the event flyer, sitting far away in Kolkata, India.
Elders participated in the Bollywood Fit, a signature program of Bandana Cultural School, performing on Bollywood numbers, enjoyed and made everyone enjoy their performance.
