India and the United Kingdom emphatically condemned terrorism in all its manifestations, including cross border terrorism, at the 16th India-United Kingdom Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism meeting recently held in the capital city.

The two sides strongly underlined the need for strengthening and enhancing international cooperation to counter the menace in a “comprehensive and sustained manner” in line with the UN charter and international law.
“India and the UK strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, and emphasised the need for strengthening international cooperation to combat terrorism in a comprehensive and sustained manner, in accordance with the UN charter and international law,” according to a press release of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Indian delegation at the meeting was led by Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism in the ministry KD Dewal and the UK side was led by Head of Counter Terrorism Network for Asia and Oceania Chris Felton. Both sides discussed key issues and shared their assessment on threats from terrorists and extremists in their respective territories and regions including “threats posed by globally sanctioned terrorist entities and individuals”, the press statement said.
“The two sides also exchanged views on the proscription of individual terrorists and entities as a tool to combat terrorism, as well as ways of working together in multilateral forums,” it was emphasised in the statement.
Both, India and the UK, exchanged perspectives across a range of significant counter-terrorism challenges such as countering radicalisation and violent extremism, combating financing of terrorism, preventing exploitation of new and emerging technologies for terrorism, law enforcement and judicial cooperation, and information sharing. They also discussed and shared perspectives on aviation and maritime security measures.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation to meet these shared challenges.
