President’s rule in J&K revoked, NC-Cong alliance set to form Govt. Omar Abdullah to be CM

New Delhi Oct 13:- President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir was revoked on Sunday (October 13), paving the way for formation of first elected government in the Union Territory. President’s Rule was imposed in the Union Territory on October 31, 2019. 

Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir was held recently after 10 years and the National Conference in alliance with the Congress got majority.  

Yesterday when chief minister-designate  Omar Abdullah was asked why it was taking time for government formation despite having the numbers, he said as the Union Territory was under President’s Rule procedures had to be followed such as the union cabinet has to meet to recommend lifting of President’s Rule.

Omar Abdullah told the media: “It’s taking time to form a government here, but there’s a procedure. The President’s Rule has been in place for six years, and to end it, the Cabinet needs to make a note, send it to the Home Ministry, and get approval. With holidays in between, we hope everything will be completed by Monday, and if all goes well, we’ll have the oath by Wednesday.”

On October 11, Omar Abdullah called on the Lieutenant Governor at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar with letters of support from alliance partner Congress and AAP and independent candidates staking claim for the government formation.
